Salary: Minimum $40,000/year, commensurate on experience.

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowin Vascular dissemination of the Lyme disease pathogen, Borrelia burgdorferi.

Job Description:
We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to examine the mechanism of vascular transmigration of the Lyme disease pathogen, Borrelia burgdorferi. This project will involve using complementary cell biology and biochemical strategies to determine how B. burgdorferi crosses the endothelial barrier. This will involve developing an in vitro model for transmigration and elucidating the host and bacterial factors required. The successful applicant will work with Drs. George Chaconas and Rebekah DeVinney.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have received a Ph.D. in microbiology or a related discipline within the past 5 years, with preference given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in cell culture and microscopy. Experience with primary endothelial cells, bacterial pathogens, and animal models is desirable. The successful applicant will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, and work well in a team setting.
