Job Description

We are seeking a candidate with broad Microbiology expertise including Molecular Diagnostic technology, who demonstrates dynamic leadership abilities and vision. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the Microbiologist team enabling alignment of strategic vision and provision of service excellence. In addition, this role will work in close partnership with Clinical Operations to collaborate on future initiatives that deliver best practice, high quality and innovative approaches to patient care.

The candidate will lead a team of 6 medical microbiologists/virologists, and work with our 36 general and anatomical pathologists and clinical chemists to provide community and hospital laboratory services formetropolitan and rural locations across the northern two thirds of Alberta, including the Edmonton area.In addition, the candidate will lead the DynaLIFE Microbiologists to provide both referral testing services and Microbiology consulting services to support Lab Operations across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut as well as the Northern Alberta Regional Hospitals in Grande Prairie and Bonnyville.

DynaLIFE,DX has been providing laboratory and diagnostic services to Albertans for more than 50 years. More than 40% of our work load comes from acute care patients within the Edmonton Zone, North Zone and Central Zone of Alberta and the remainder is community based. Our medical professionals work collaboratively not only within DynaLIFE but also with Provincial working groups to support our base laboratory located in our beautiful facility in downtown Edmonton as well as several laboratories located in rural locations.

Working collaboratively with the Provincial Laboratory we provide full services including Mycology, Parasitology and NAA testing and all areas of routine Microbiology and Serology.
Our state of the art technology includes the Keistra total lab automation system and the BD Max systems

Medical Microbiologists at DynaLIFE review routine/abnormal laboratory results, consult with patient’s physicians in test selection/interpretation, participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews, and report on specialized tests. Physician support is also provided via our Anti-Microbial Stewardship program.

Our medical staff are encouraged to pursue special interests including participating in research and holding appropriate academic appointments in the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Alberta. Teaching at the undergraduate and resident training levels is expected.

Candidates must have or be eligible to acquire their fellowship in Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must qualify for licensure in Alberta.

Remuneration is generous and in line with the Alberta Medical Association negotiated grid for pathologists. Benefits include general and CME leave.
