Job Description

Deadline for Application Submission: April 15, 2020

Global climate change is one of the major challenges that we face as a society. Contributing to this challenge is our continued reliance on traditional fossil fuels for energy generation and chemical production. Combatting climate change will require new technologies to capture CO2 from the environment, and the replacement of traditional fuel and chemical production methods with carbon-neutral or carbon-negative methods.

To this end, we propose to develop novel systems for the production of fuels and chemicals from CO2 through the integration of chemical and biological catalysis, guided by computational systems biology. We are recruiting multiple graduate students (at the MSc and/or PhD level) to contribute to this research program. This exciting, inter-disciplinary project will draw upon state-of-the-art methods in bacterial genetic engineering, adaptive laboratory evolution, mathematical modelling of metabolism, electrocatalyst engineering, and electrochemistry. The preferred start date is September 2020, but this date is flexible.

Applicants must have a BSc or MSc degree in biology or chemical engineering, or related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, data science, or materials science. Experience with microbial growth or electrochemistry would be beneficial; however, experience with these methods is not required as we can train the successful applicant in all required skills.

Application Instructions

Please email Cao Thang Dinh, Laurence Yang or George diCenzo by 15 April 2020, with the subject line: “EBH Grad Application 2020”.
