Job Description

Applications are invited for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Biology, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of Manitoba. Applicants must have a PhD or DMD/DDS and MSc or higher. Applicants should have post-doctoral training and demonstrated evidence of research experience (with peer-reviewed publications) in alignment with current research strengths in the department, including cellular, molecular, or developmental biology. Preference given to individuals demonstrating strong research and teaching expertise in areas related to immunology/inflammation of oral tissues in health and disease. The applicant should be fluent in English. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2021 or as soon thereafter as possible.

The Department of Oral Biology (https://umanitoba.ca/dentistry/oral-biology) is a multidisciplinary academic and research unit in the College of Dentistry. Its members provide basic science teaching to undergraduate dental and dental hygiene students, graduate students, and clinical residents. Departmental members have research programs in areas of neurosciences, biochemistry, taste biology, physiology, and microbiology. The department hosts the Manitoba Chemosensory Biology Research Group (https://umanitoba.ca/faculties/health_sciences/dentistry/MCSB/1003.html) and a readily available zebrafish and Mexican tetra fish breeding facility. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students and clinical residents, develop a strong, independent, and externally funded research program complementary to existing Department strengths, and provide service to the Department, College, University and academic and professional discipline. Opportunities exist for collaboration with clinical/basic science departments on the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences campus.
