 Department of Microbiology
Faculty of Science

The Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, invites applications for a full-time probationary position at the rank of Instructor I or II, with a focus on Microbiology, commencing January 1st, 2023 or on a mutually agreeable date. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks a scholar committed to excellence in teaching and pedagogical development that is consistent with evidence-based teaching in a collaborative environment and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the classroom. The successful candidate at the Instructor II rank will have a Ph.D. and a track record of outstanding teaching contributions and course development. At the Instructor I rank, the successful candidate will have an M.Sc. or Ph.D. (preferred), and demonstrate outstanding experience in, or potential for, teaching and course development. Other distinguishing attributes in Microbiology may be considered. Experience in prokaryotic or eukaryotic microbiology in molecular microbiology, biochemistry, environmental microbiology, proteomics, bioinformatics, or computational biology will be beneficial. Duties will include undergraduate teaching in the laboratory and classroom, and service-related activities. Teaching delivery may include live lecture, on-line and distance formats.

The Department has 17.5 tenured and tenure track faculty members and 2.5 Instructors and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Microbiology and Biochemistry. Our teaching laboratories are well-equipped with biosafety cabinets, plate readers, qPCR machines, and bioinformatics resources. The Department has strong links with the Departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences, the Rady Faculty of Medicine and the faculties of Engineering, Agriculture & Food Science.
