Plant Made Vaccine Workshop - Sponsored by CSM

A workshop on plant-based immunotherapeutics and vaccines for veterinary applications was held in London ON September 23-25, and was a great success. The workshop was sponsored by the Canadian Society of Microbiologists and the OECD, and organized by Rima Menassa and Ed Topp. Over 40 experts from Canada, the United States, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Finland and Korea representing the international research, regulatory and commercial communities participated. Experts gave presentations on Antibiotic resistance and alternatives in food animal production, Regulation and commercialization of vaccines, Plants for the production of immunotherapeutics and vaccines, Vaccine efficacy and administration methods, and Protein purification and formulation of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. Three manuscripts are in preparation and will be completed for submission in early 2014. These will target various audiences and are tentatively entitled: A Road Map to the Commercialization of Plant-Based Immunotherapeutics and Vaccines; Alternative solutions for veterinary immunotherapeutics and prophylactics - Plant-based solutions to improve animal welfare; and Plant-based immunotherapeutics and vaccines.
