CSM President’s Newsletter April 2014
Dear fellow microbiologists,
With less than 4 months to go before our annual meeting, I would like to bring to your attention the following:
CSM awards nomination
We are extending the Awards nomination deadline to April 20. Numerous awards are offered each year by the Canadian Society of Microbiologists. For an overview of the various awards nomination details and forms, please refer to the CSM Awards Page. I encourage you to nominate the microbiologists you believe should be considered for an award.
IUMS-CSM
At the same time, I would like to inform you that the joint 2014 IUMS Congresses-CSM Conference is promising to be a success as long as our members get involved. CSM has invested time, effort and money in this special congress. It is thus important that as Canadians we support this scientific event. More than 2000 abstracts were received and great scientific and social events are being planned. A late-breaking abstract submission will be announced shortly. Please help us market the IUMS Congress, by contacting your Canadian and American colleagues and encourage them to register for the IUMS Congress and submit an abstract. Making a success of this joint congress will constitute a great Canadian microbiology showcase and will assure exciting future CSM conferences.
Nominations for Executive and Council Positions
Each year Executive and Council positions are open. This year, after 3 years of much appreciated service, Ayush Kumar will step down as Secretary-Treasurer leaving this position vacant. We are also looking for a 2nd Vice President, a representative on the Education and Careers committee, and a Chair for the CSM Murray Award for Career Achievement position.
