Two CSM Members Elected to the American Academy of Microbiology
Each year, the American Academy of Microbiology honours select researchers for their contributions to the field of microbiology by electing them Fellows of the Academy. Worldwide, researchers are chosen through a rigorous selection process based on their lifetime achievements in microbiology and this year, two Canadians have been given this honour.
Dr. Lori Burrows currently serves as the Associate Chair of Research in the Department of Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University in addition to her outstanding citizenship serving on several committees and boards. She is respected globally for her work on the type IV pili of Pseudomonas aeruginosa as well as her efforts in understanding biofilm formation and other aspects of the bacterial cell surface. Lori has also made her impact on the CSM, serving on the Armand Frappier Award Committee since 2015 and helping to organize the 2010 CSM Annual Conference at McMaster.
Dr. William Mohn is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology in the Life Sciences Institute at the University of British Columbia. He has served on numerous editorial and advisory boards. Bill is recognized internationally for his work in bacterial metabolism and microbial ecology in a variety of environments, and his research is applicable to many fields such as agriculture, biotechnology and biomedicine. With regard to the CSM, he is the winner of the 2016 Murray Award and is a current member of the Murray Award Committee. He also served as the co-chair of the 2012 CSM Annual Conference at UBC.
On behalf of the CSM, we would like to congratulate these two exceptional scientists on achieving this honour and thank them for their immense contributions to the field of microbiology.
