CSM President Letter -June 2021
I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Our Annual Conference this year is being held remotely, but this this does not prevent us from celebrating the achievements of CSM members.
I would like to take this opportunity to applaud all the nominees for a CSM Award this year. The outstanding nominations that we received this year are a testament to the excellence of our CSM members and demonstrate our continued engagement with the Society despite the challenges of the past year. Congratulations to the Award recipients for this year:
Armand-Frappier Outstanding Student Award: Kali Iyer, University of Toronto
Melissa Phuong, University of Ottawa, is the inaugural winner of CSM Burrows Award for Womxn in Microbiology.
In addition to the Award lectures, our remote conference this year will also feature the post-doctoral and student symposia, section talks, and poster sessions. The full schedule of the conference is available here, CSM-SCM Annual Conference Remote 2021 (fourwaves.com).
Further, the FOME - the Forum On Microbiology Education session is on June 10th at 1315 EDT.
Please join us in celebrating the very best of Canadian microbiology. If you have not yet had a chance to renew your membership, there is still an opportunity to do so (Canadian Society of Microbiologists - Renew Membership (csm-scm.org)). You can always take advantage of the option to renew your membership for two years. The two-year option is a great way to show your support for the Society, maintain your eligibility for awards, and express your optimism for our return to an in-person conference in 2022!
The CSM Annual General Meeting (AGM), will be held on-line on Thursday, June 17 at 3PM EDT. The AGM provides an opportunity to shape the future of our Society. Please consider attending the AGM.
As I wrap up my term as the CSM President, I could not be prouder of being a part of the Canadian Microbiology community. It has truly been an honor and a privilege!
With best wishes
Best regards
Ayush Kumar, President
Canadian Society of Microbiologists
