Methylmercury (MeHg) is one of the most toxic compounds among the mercury species. Most of the MeHg in nature is produced by microbes possessing a certain pair of genes. My project goal is to answer what chemical parameters make these microbes produce MeHg and what environmental conditions increase MeHg production?
